Are you looking to jump from day hiker to overnight backpacker? This intro-level backpacking trip is a great first-ever trip or to take it easy, try out gear, and refresh on skills. We’ll be helping along the way to increase your self-sufficiency and confidence to spend nights out safely in the backcountry. Relax and enjoy the sunset at camp without worrying about getting out of the woods before dark. Experience the beauty of waking up for the sunrise in the backcountry while you hone your skills on this trip. Our more leisurely itinerary allows backpackers plenty of time to set up their tents, or their preferred sleep system, and practice camping skills in a fun group dynamic. We’re there to advise, help, and teach any skills you’re rusty on or don’t already know so you can safely enjoy the trip. After a day of learning and an enjoyable evening, we’ll wake up for a relaxed final day as we continue to cover key topics for being self-sufficient in the backcountry such as the importance of Leave No Trace principles (LNT). Students go home feeling confident in themselves and ready to take on more ambitious itineraries with their solid foundation of skills to build on. Minimum Gear: 50-70 liter backpack, shelter (tent, tarp shelter, bivy, or hammock), sleeping bag, sleeping pad, lighter, water bottles or bladder for 2-3 liters of water, water filter, small knife, 75’ paracord, compass, cell phone with USB charger & cable, headlamp & extra batteries, canister stove & fuel, pot, food & snacks, eating utensils, bear hang food bag, first aid kit, toiletries, clothing for the weather, & hiking boots. A very detailed packing list will be sent to registrants the week of the trip, but feel free to contact us with any questions before then. Prerequisite: If this is your first TrailBound Project backpacking trip, you must also register for and attend a Backpacking Shakedown Hike. (Contact us if you are unable to make it or if you're already an experienced backpacker.) Minimum Age: 12 years old - the minor(s) and a parent/guardian must all be paid registered participants.
