Cold temperatures affect butane's ability to ignite. If the temperature is below 50 degrees Fahrenheit, it is best to keep your lighter in a pocket close to your body and to warm it in your hands for a minute before use.

The Cyclone is rated up to 12,000'. As you go up in altitude, the air becomes less dense and there is less oxygen. A significant change in altitude can cause an issue with the fuel-to-air ratio (just like in cars). If you have an issue after going up thousands of feet in altitude, decrease the butane flow. Likewise, increase the butane flow when going back down in altitude.

We always carry a Light My Fire ferro rod as a backup to our Cyclone lighters in case of butane failure due to extreme wind, precipitation, temperature, and altitude.
