Detailed Description:

Breakneck Ridge is a challenging 3-mile loop hike with 1,300' of elevation up and down in the Hudson Highlands State Park Preserve. Many would consider this hike difficult due to its many rock scrambles and is no doubt on the bucket list of hikes for our area. We will email the parking and hike details to those registered closer to the hike date. Breakneck Ridge is considered by many to be the most challenging hike in the area despite its short length. You will need to use both your hands and feet on many of the rock scrambles and those afraid of heights will be tested. Right out of the gate, we'll be ascending a steep rocky area where part way up to the ridge we get our first view from above the Hudson River. As we continue hiking and scrambling up the exposed rock, we're treated to many more views that get better and better until we reach the top of the ridge with incredible panoramic views up and down the Hudson and across to Storm King Mountain. Continuing along the ridge is a playground of scrambles, the most difficult of which have easier alternatives to bypass them for the faint of heart. We round the corner toward Sugarloaf Mountain where we're treated to more views until we finally head back down a more mellow route to complete our hike.
